My research focuses on developing theory and methods for characterizing organizational diffuseness, particularly as it relates to boundary permeability, happiness, knowledge production, and information efficiency. Areas of particular empirical interest are haute cuisine networks, distributed artisanal production systems, standards-creating coalitions, and open-source software communities.

I grew up in Singapore, served in the Singapore Army as a logistician, and concentrated in Social Studies at Harvard (my thesis examined the adoption of Japanese food as haute cuisine in 1980s America). Inexplicably hired by Google in 2005, I worked there on advertising partnerships, Google Earth and Maps, the Lunar XPRIZE, genomics, and structured data products before moving to the Anderson Ranch Art Foundation in May 2008.
