The Strategic Management of Technology
Clayton M. Christensen's research on the management of
technological innovation suggests that for leading firms in a wide
variety of industries, developing advanced technologies per se is
rarely the constraining challenge in technological innovation. Rather,
the challenge is market innovation. Finding new markets for advanced
technologies seems to be an ability most large, successful firms
exhibited on entry into their industries, but subsequently lost.
Christensen's research is focused on identifying and managing the
factors that influence the way firms introduce advanced technologies to
existing and prospective markets.
