Why did you choose to work at HBS?
Actually I started here at HBS as a contractor in the Housekeeping Department. I was just out of high school and recently married with a child on the way. The company I was working for was outbid when their contract was to be renewed and unfortunately I was laid off. Someone told me there was an opening in the mailroom and I applied for the position. I didn't think I had a chance of getting in but was hired. People would say that working in Harvard was a great place and people don't leave it often. I really wanted the opportunity. I was hired and have been here since 1994. I promised myself that I would give the opportunity the best part of me for however it would last.
How has your career developed at HBS?
In 1997, I was given the Robert F. Greenhill Award for my outstanding service to the community. Since joining HBS, I have always taken different responsibilities in the mail room and always believe in learning new skills. With this you can offer more to the department and the community as well as support the mission on a daily basis. That is one of the good things about HBS; with awareness and diligent work you can grow your career in any direction.
What is so special about working at HBS?
I've grown fond of the Business School because of the environment and the close social network in the community. It has also helped to give me a strong foundation at home for my family. I never get tired of the routine during the school year and am also amazed with the innovative steps that HBS has taken to develop tomorrow's leaders in business.
