Health Policy Management: Curriculum

Students in this track will learn how theories and concepts from fields such as technology and operations management, organizational behavior, organizational economics, and competitive strategy can be applied to—and further developed for understanding—health care organizations.

Required Courses

  • Health Policy Core Seminar — year long seminar
  • Microeconomic Theory — at least one semester
  • Management and Markets — two semesters
  • Design of Field Research Methods
  • Two Statistics courses
  • Epidemiology
  • One course in two of the following areas:  Political Analysis, Decision Sciences, Medical Sociology, Ethics or Economics

5 MBA Courses: Students who do not have an MBA are required to take 5 MBA courses including one MBA Healthcare course or the first semester of the MBA program. 

Qualifying Exams

  • Health Policy General Exam — At the end of the second year of coursework
  • Special Field Exam — during the third academic year

Dissertation

  • Health Policy Research Seminar: required of all candidates in their third year or above.
  • Dissertation Proposal Exam: Before June 15th of the third year
  • Dissertation Oral Defense
