Professor Georges Doriot—a Frenchman by birth, and a lifelong Francophile—felt a particularly strong impulse to help the new school in Paris get off on the right foot. Not only did he help the Parisian business community think through its options in establishing the school, but he translated a number of HBS cases for use there, and otherwise shaped its development.

"It is plain that this new school will have a great social significance, both from a national and international point of view," Doriot wrote. "Its establishment marks not only an advance in the development of the excellent French Chambres de Commerce, but an adoption of American methods."
