"A learning nexus" Stephen Laster, CIO, on the Educational Technology Group
Transcript
And then we have a group called the Educational Technology Group, which is part of my team, which really acts as a resource to hear, collect, and understand the ideas. And then to work, whether it's with the DRFD, or with the programs to say like, "Look, here's the range of possibilities. Where do you want to experiment? Where do we mutually think we want to experiment?"
An example of that is in Executive Education. So Executive Education is saying to itself, you know, "With the long-running programs, how do we blend them a bit more?" "Blended" meaning, in residence for some period of time, working and collaborating at a distance for a period of time, and then coming back in residence on campus.
And so one of the experiments that's currently going on at HBS is this concept of an HBS "learning nexus." It's a safe, web-based place to come, where when you're in the program and at a distance you can still collaborate, you can work, you can learn. And when you're on campus it's a place by which to receive your materials, and to understand the flow of the program. That idea, I think, the genesis of it was about twelve months ago, six months to implement, and now we're in the advanced pilot phase. And so I think it's a great example.
