Donna Dubinsky (MBA 1981) on memorable advice from Professor John Gabarro
Transcript
Well, one of my favorite words of wisdom from my first class I think my first day of my Harvard Business School experience was with Jack Gabarro in Organizational Behavior, where he advised us in our first job to get our go-to-hell money together. Arguing, essentially, that you have to get yourself in a financial position that you can leave your job if you feel things aren't right in some way. If you're not happy, or something's going on in the organization that you disagree with, you have to be able to leave. And you don't want to get yourself in a position where you're so dependent on your job at that moment that you can't leave if you need to.
I thought those were very important words of wisdom that I very quickly adopted as my own.
