A POM string
Between 1980 and 1986, with strong encouragement from two deans, members of the Harvard POM faculty produced a series of highly influential articles and books. The articles included five McKinsey Award winners (for best article in the Harvard Business Review:
- “Managing Our Way to Economic Decline” (1980), by Robert Hayes and William Abernathy
- “The New Industrial Competition” (1981), by William Abernathy, Kim Clark, and Alan Kantrow
- “Managing as if Tomorrow Mattered” (1982), by Robert Hayes and David Garvin
- “Quality on the Line” (1983), by David Garvin, and
- “The Productivity Paradox” (1986), by Wickham Skinner
